Finland

Finland - Is officially known as the Republic of Finland. Finland is a European Country and shares borders with Sweden, Russia, Norway, and Estonia by way the Gulf of Finland, the Gulf of Bothnia and the Baltic Sea. Finland was historically a part of Sweden and from 1809 an autonomous Grand Duchy within the Russian Empire. Finland won its complete independence in 1917. During World War II, it was able to successfully defend its freedom and resist invasions by the Soviet Union. Finland has made a remarkable transformation from a farm/forest economy to a diversified modern industrial economy; per capita income is now among the highest in Western Europe. Finland joined the European Union since 1995. Its key economic sector is manufacturing - principally the wood, metals, engineering, telecommunications, and electronics industries. According to archaeological evidence, the area now composing Finland was settled at the earliest around 8500 BCE during the Stone Age as the ice shield of the last ice age receded.
