Parthenon Classical Temple of Greece

When visiting Europe no vacation is complete with a trip to Greece and visiting the Parthenon.

The Parthenon was built as temple for the goddess Athena and was began between 447 and 438 B.C. The name of the building most likely from a cult statue of Athena Pantheons housed and destroyed by the Persians in 480 B.C. The massive foundation was built of limestone and the columns were made of Pentelic marble and the classical Parthenon was construction / sculptured by architects Ictinus, Callicrates and the renowned sculptor Phidias. It is a double peripheral Doric temple with several unique and innovative architectural features, it has about 13400 stones in the building and have stood since the 5th century B.C.

The Parthenon had 5 main instigators of design, they were Pericles, Phidias, Kalamis, Ictinus and Calibrates. The Parthenon was not only built for looks but it’s also showed Athenian dominance over the rest of Greek. Athenian was it’s Greek imperial master, the colonnade established a background for a giant ivory statue of Athena Parthenos sat inside the Parthenon but it was destroyed before modern time. The maiden goddess and patroness of Athens, she represented the highest order of spiritual development and the gifts of intellect and understanding. Pure in body, mind and heart, Athena was the symbol of the universal human aspiration for wisdom. Much of the structure remains intact, the Parthenon has suffered considerable damage over the centuries. In 296 BC the gold from the statue was removed by the tyrant Lachares to pay his army.

The Parthenon and Historical Greece is very important surviving building is in Greek country and now they put forth much effort to restore the Parthenon and other Acropolis structures. A substantial admission price is paid by the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit the site each year. Little of this money however, is used for the preservation of the Parthenon but is instead wasted away by corrupt bureaucrats and government officials. They try to commit the sculptures or Parthenon Marbles from British Museum in London to return to Greek, Parthenon Marbles were sold in 1861 to British Museum. We don’t know much about this temple, but Parthenon is famous for many people whoever loves and like the old architecture only Parthenon can bring many people from everywhere in the world such as Asian people, African people and Australian to visit The Parthenon.
